Are you tired of buying expensive Command Strip refills? Try this instead!
Command Refill Strips
Have you ever used Command Strips? 3M Command strips are the genius way to hang practically anything...damage free.
While I haven't tried all the varieties I use small clear Command Strips for hanging party and holiday banners, our giant seasonal calendars, Christmas garland on our railing, Christmas wreaths on our windows, and so much more.
Why I Love Command Hooks:
- So easy to use- you can put them anywhere
- Damage-free- won't ruin paint when you remove them
- Actually holds things up (as compared to tape that I used for so many years which always resulted in falling party banners, etc.)
What I don't love about Command Strips:
The Command Strip refills are so expensive to buy. While I don't mind the initial investment for the Command hooks, I hate spending $6 or more dollars every time I want to use my hooks again.
There's got to be a cheaper option, right? (Hint: YES THERE IS!!)

Cheap Refill Command Strips
I've been on the hunt for a cheaper refill option. I searched long and hard and found this double-sided tape on Amazon.
I was tired of paying for expensive Command refill strips, so decided this was definitely worth a shot. For practically the price of one package of refill strips, I could get an entire roll of refill tape.
The verdict? I love it!
So far, it has worked perfectly and has left no damage on walls, metal railings, or my mantle.
Easy To Use
To use the multi-purpose removable tape, simply cut a piece of the tape that will fit the size of your Command hook. The tape is thick and clear, so you can put it anywhere!
Stick it on the back of your hook and then stick the hook to your mantle, wall, door, or wherever you want it!
Ideally, you'll want to wait a few hours until you hang anything heavy on it. (The directions say that the adhesive gets stronger the longer it sits.)
However, I'm usually impatient and hang stuff immediately and haven't had a problem.

Removable Tape
I seriously love that anytime I want to hang something up with a Command hook, I can since I have a lifetime supply of refill strips for cheap!
And if I need to reposition it? I don't stress about "wasting" a precious refill strip.
To remove it, simply use a dull knife or your fingers to pull it off.
Is this tape damage free?
The best thing about Command strips are they are damage free. Does this Command refill strip damage walls?
I found these product details to be contradictory, "The removable double sided adhesive tape can be easily removed from smooth surfaces without any residue or damage. The wall tape can replace traditional methods of mounting items such as screw fixing and help keep your walls looking great. DO NOT USE ON PAINTED WALLS!"
I have used this tape over an over and have not had any issue with it pulling paint off my walls.
With that said, I guess there is a chance it could take some paint off. But it hasn't happened to me yet.
Places I've used this without an issue:
- Walls
- Powder coated railing
- Windows
- Wood mantle
I'm a total fan.
If you're sick of buying expensive Command refill strips, you should totally try this double-sided tape.
Enjoy this Command strip refill alternative!

It says it’s not supposed to be used on paint walls or uneven surfaces. You’re saying it comes off of paint walls as well as Command strips? Does it remove the same (pull down)?
Melissa says
Yes! I haven't had it rip off any paint. It doesn't pull down the same as a Command strip, but you just have to pull it off.

Thank you! The price of Command refill strips has always been a sticking point for me. No pun intended.
