“I hate Churros,” said no Juan ever. Haha. Who doesn’t love a good churro? Now you can make your own quickly and easily with this homemade churro recipe.
Homemade churros are amazing– they have a perfectly crunchy outside, but a soft inside that you love. The best part about this churro recipe is that you won’t have to spend hours in the kitchen making them.
Or spend $10 on a churro like you would at Disneyland. For the record, this churro recipe has been deemed better than the Disneyland churro recipe. I guess you’ll just have to try these out and decide for yourself.
This homemade churro recipe is incredibly easy and fast to make. In 30 minutes, you can have around 50 mini churros ready to eat.
EASY CHURRO RECIPE INGREDIENTS
Making this churro recipe is great because all you need is some basic ingredients you most likely already have in your kitchen. You’ll need:
- all-purpose flour
- white sugar
- vegetable oil
- 2 quarts oil for frying
- white sugar (for topping)
- cinnamon (for topping)
- chocolate chips (for topping)
- heavy cream (for topping)

HOW TO MAKE CHURROS
STEP 1-PREPARE THE CHURRO DOUGH
Combine 1 cup water, 2 1/2 tablespoons sugar, 1/2 tsp. salt, and 2 tablespoons vegetable oil in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil on medium-high heat.
Remove from heat. Carefully stir in the flour until the mixture forms a ball.
Once the flour is mixed well into the water, it will become a soft dough ball that looks like this:
Let the dough rest for 5-10 minutes on the counter to cool. This step is very important so that the dough will stiffen and fry better.
While it is cooling, prepare your large piping bag with the star tip. I didn’t have a coupling for my piping bag, so I just slid the tip into the bag and then cut off the bottom. Gently place the dough into the piping bag.
STEP 2- CUT & FRY
Heat the oil in a deep-fryer or electric fry pan. Once the oil has reached 375 degrees F (190 C) you are ready to start frying!
Using your piping bag and star tip, pipe 2-inch strips of churro dough into the hot oil. Be careful!
Pull out a great pair kitchen scissors. With one hand piping, use the other to cut off the churro pieces for a quick process!
STEP 3- ROLL IN CINNAMON SUGAR OR DIP IN CHOCOLATE
Once the churros are golden brown on all sides, remove from oil and let drain on a plate covered with paper towels.
Combine cinnamon and sugar and dip the churros into the sugar mixture.
HOW MANY CHURROS DOES ONE BATCH MAKE?
One recipe makes about 25, 2-inch mini churros. A double batch will make about 50.
CAN I MAKE IT WITHOUT THIS STAR TIP?
You can, but I don’t recommend it. The first year we made them we didn’t have this star tip and it was so hard to get them shaped and even. (To get them into pieces, you’ll have to roll the dough into a long rope. Then cut off small sections.)
The $5 investment for the star has been worth every penny! Not only do they look prettier, but they taste so much better with the ridges the tip gives each piece.

CHURROS CON CHOCOLATE
Homemade churros dipped in cinnamon and sugar are amazing in and of itself.
But… Churros con chocolate are to die for! Making a simple chocolate dipping sauce is so easy.
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- 2 Tbsp. heavy cream
In a microwave safe bowl. Melt on high for 30-60 seconds, stirring every 30 seconds. Add more cream if you want the chocolate sauce thinner. Pour into a shallow serving ramekin and dip your amazing homemade churros in them!

- Heat oil for frying in deep-fryer or deep skillet to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Pipe strips of dough into hot oil using a pastry bag. Fry until golden; drain on paper towels.
- Combine 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon. Roll drained churros in cinnamon and sugar mixture.
- For churros con chocolate, melt chocolate chips in microwave with a few teaspoons of heavy cream. Stir well until thin. Dip!
