HOW TO HAVE A FUN HALLOWEEN MYSTERY DINNER
Are you planning a Halloween party for your family or friends? You're in luck!
This post will show you how easy it is to plan a Halloween Mystery Dinner. It will be a Halloween dinner party to remember!
HALLOWEEN MYSTERY DINNER PARTY KIT (MENUS, RECIPES, & MORE)
Our extended family Halloween party is our favorite family party of the year. That's why we went all out and threw a Halloween Mystery Dinner.
Have you ever done one? A mystery dinner is so much fun. Each food has a mystery name and the guests to order what food they want for each course. That means they could end up with dessert first or a fork to eat soup with!
HALLOWEEN DINNER PARTY DECORATIONS
Before we get to the food, let's talk about Halloween party decorations. Because the food prep obviously takes some time, we kept the decorations really simple. And you can, too!
We strung some black webbing (from Dollar Tree) across the doorway and added one of the DIY Paper Straw Spiders I shared a few weeks ago.
We used a few mini pumpkins for centerpieces and put a twinkle light by each plate. One strand of orange lights was strung down the middle of the table, which added a fun ambiance.
HALLOWEEN MYSTERY DINNER MENU
Here's the fun part- creating a Halloween menu. (The good news is we've done this for you!)
The trick to a mixed up dinner is that every menu item is renamed so that when the party guests are "ordering" their food, they don't know what they're getting.
We came up with a kid-friendly menu which included foods that kids would like but also that were great for adults, too!
Severed toes, bones, and pulverized black widows were just a few of the menu items we came up with.
We placed a menu on each plate as part of the place setting for each guest, along with a pen for each person to fill in their Halloween dinner menus.

HALLOWEEN MYSTERY DINNER MENU IDEAS:
Keep your dinner fairly simple by choosing 12 menu items divided into 3 courses.
Our menu included: Mac n'cheese, green beans, tomato basil soup, fruit salad, Doritos, breadsticks, mini mummies, root beer, and utensils. Here are the names for them:
- Haunted House Sewer Pipe - Straw
- Grave Diggers- Spoon
- Pulverized Black Widows- Root Beer
- Mummy Wrappings- Napkin
- Severed Toes- Mini cocktail sausages wrapped in crescent rolls
- Hardy Witches' Broom- Fork
- Rotting Werewolf Brain- Mac n' Cheese
- Graveyard Grass- Green Beans
- Dracula's Blood- Tomato Basil Soup
- Chilled Frogs & Witches Warts- Fruit Salad
- Deep Fried Bat Wings- Doritos
- Bones- Breadsticks in the shape of bones and blood sauce
HOW TO ORGANIZE YOUR HALLOWEEN MYSTERY DINNER FOOD
You'll want to have your food prepped and ready to go before the dinner starts.
Because once your guests fill out their menus, it's go time!
You'll need a few people to be behind the scenes putting each order together.
It's easiest if you have all of your prepared in advance and divided onto trays that are labeled. This is what it looks like:
FOR EXAMPLE:
Fried bat wings were #11 on our menu. Fried bat wings were Doritos, so we wrapped them up before the party so it was quicker to grab when someone ordered that mystery item.
These were our severed toes--- gross looking right? Haha.
Tip: Order all of the food to make it easier to find and serve each course.

HALLOWEEN DINNER PARTY DESSERT IDEA
Since your Halloween mystery dinner will take some time to prepare, stick with a simple dessert like this "Pick Your Poison" Ice Cream Dessert Bar.
Pull together some Halloween-themed toppings, put them in jars, and call it good! The great thing about this dessert is that it can all be prepped in advance!
Get all the Halloween Party Ice Cream bar details here.
ONCE YOUR MYSTERY DINNER BEGINS
- Guests fill out their menus completely, deciding which item will go into which course.
- The waiters/waitresses pick up their menus and start assembling the food chosen for Course 1.
- Each person gets their items for Course 1. Once completed, Course 2 and Course 3 items are delivered.
Finish the night with dessert and games.

We do a themed mystery dinner for April’s fool’s each year. This Halloween theme will be really fun to do, even if it is six months out of season! Thanks for sharing your great ideas.
