Party planning 101: Organization

The more organized you are for a party, the better and more fun it will be for you! Here are our favorite ways to stay organized when it comes to planning and throwing a party:

1. Make a list. Even if you aren’t a list person, write every single detail down. Write down everything you can possibly think you will need. And we are talking everything! Tape, string, balloons, beverages, etc. You may already have most of it, but still write it down. Use paper, a notebook, or your phone. It doesn’t matter where your list is, just make one!

2. Make a timeline of when everything should be done. In an ideal situation when you have a few weeks before your party, a sample timeline could look like this:
-10 days before- send out invites
-5 days before- buy groceries and other party supplies
-1 day- set up chairs, tables, and decorate
-day of: prepare food, chill beverages, set-out last-minute items.

3. Set aside all of your party decorations in a box as you get it. Then when it comes to decorating, everything will be together and you can do it much quicker.

quiz

For our quiz this week and to add another point to your ‘grade’ (remember, whoever has the most points at the end of the semester will win a HUGE party pack), leave a comment telling us what you do to be organized for a party. Bonus point if you ask a question.

I always make a list…sometimes multiple. Probably best to keep them all in one place though :).

I do make lots of lists! I have a list of decorations, a list of what groceries I need and one for the groceries I already have on hand! I also have some of my decorations stored together as parties, like all my
Mexican stuff for Cinco De Mayo and stuff like that. I do love the idea of gradually gathering stuff I need for a specific party and then keep it all together.

My question to you is how do you store all of your stuff. Do you have a dedicated cupboard for all your party stuff (decorations, banners) stuff like that or do you not reuse stuff from year to year?

I make lists like crazy! I have found it helps if I keep them all on my phone, for easy reference as I always seem to have my phone with me. Also, for me things get most complicated right before a party. It seems like you have so much time and then bam! Time is up and before you know it, the guests start arriving. I think it helps me to do as much as possible before the day of…food, hanging decor, etc. Leaving the least amount possible to do day of seems to help with my success!

My question is: do you sit down at the beginning of the year/month and plan out your festive parties and celebrations? Or are many of them spontaneous and last minute? Holidays seem to sneak up on me and if I have not consciously planned and thought out the details, I seem to remember last minute when there is not enough time to carry out what I would like to do.

Also, do you have any etsy shops or websites you like to order party supplies from? There are not many stores close to me with party decorations. I would love to know where you like to get your stuff!

I’m all about lists, I’ve been working on the list for my daughters party for a month now, the hard part for me is finally getting off the list and work on the project, HA!

  • On Sunday night I told my friend that I’m cancelling Christmas. I was feeling very grinchy as the (what felt like) hundreds of ornaments scattered around the house that I had already placed on the tree 5x and the stuff and pressures that can come from the season was getting to me.
My husband and I have already greatly simplified Christmas in so many aspects over the past few years, but I was still feeling overwhelmed ... So I’ve been quieting Christmas over here. I’m only setting up one tree, leaving most of our nativities from world travels in the box, not putting garland on the railing that my kids keep pulling down, and not wrapping our Christmas books for our book advent this year. Because if I pick up one more piece of paper off the floor I might scream! 🤣 And Christmas cards? Usually mine are already in the mail by now, but haven’t even started. So who knows if they’ll go out this year?! I’m craving space and emptiness in all senses of the word so I can feel more of Christ’s peace, and have the energy and positivity to spend time serving and making the memories I really want with my family instead of being a mean old witch.
I’m already feeling so much better and maybe Christmas will come after all.🎄❤️ #christmas #simplifylife #simplechristmas #cozyminimalist
