Here's an easy tutorial to make your own cheerful birthday banner! Includes free pattern and step-by-step directions.
If you've been reading this blog for a while now, you know that I love doing festive things cheaply. (Partly so I can justify doing it all, partly because I love a good deal, and mostly because I know that you can be festive without spending a lot of money.)
WHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE A BIRTHDAY BANNER
- fabric
- pinking shears
- banner template
- sharpie
- bias tape
- sewing machine
At a yard sale, I picked up some scraps of fabric they were giving away for free. FREE people. I knew I could do something with it! Look at those bright colors.
I decided to make a birthday bunting that I could pull out birthday after birthday.
I made a template with the size I wanted each piece to be. Then, I traced it onto the fabric.
I suppose you could get really fancy and sew the edges, but I wanted to keep it simple. So, I used pinking shears to cut so that the edges wouldn't fray.
Then I cut out thick b-i-r-t-h-d-a-y letters out of white felt to sew onto each piece.
After that was done, I sewed it all together by attaching each triangle to double-fold bias tape.
And ta-da! Here is the finished bunting....
Even though we sometimes have themed birthdays, I still use this bunting to help the birthday person feel extra special. It is becoming a familiar birthday tradition for us all and I love it.
