A little while ago, I came across a really fun blog called The Proper Pinwheel. I instantly fell in love with it. The ideas are festive, fresh, and modern–a welcome change to ideas that seem run-of-the-mill. Lexy Ward is the creator of that fun little blog and today, you get to meet her right here.
I asked her a few questions, but feel free to visit her blog and I promise, it will instantly become a favorite. It’s also kind of fun that her and I are going to have babies near the same time this fall.
Okay, Lexy…take it away.
1. Tell us when/where you found for love for parties.
I come from a large Italian family, so no get together is a small affair. I’ve always love to entertain. In college, my roommates and I always had the parties and we made sure everyone was pleased. I’ve always loved to party. It’s great that I can focus on partying as part of my job.
2. What are your favorite go-to party supplies and/or store to get them?
I could live at Target. They honestly have everything I could ever want to host a fun party. I always frequent the dollar spots looking for fun little accessories I could use. My go-to party goods? I like to have a string of lights at any event possible. They add some fun sparkle over the dessert tables!
3. What is your favorite holiday and any associated traditions with that holiday?
Oh my. It’s hard to pick a favorite holiday, but if I had to, I’d choose Halloween. It’s been my favorite holiday because the Halloween issue of Martha is always the best one of the year. I’ve never not dressed up. Every year that I’ve lived, I’ve worn a costume. As a parent, I plan to carry on that streak!
4. Are you a morning or night person?
I used to be a night owl, but since becoming pregnant, I would rather get things done in the morning! I usually pass out around 8 or 9 at night these days.
5. Is there anything you like to do to make your parties or get-togethers extra festive?
At any party, even if I’m pressed for time, the desserts will always be homemade. I love to bake and feel it is my duty to share homemade goodness with the world.
6. Besides popsicles, what is your favorite thing about summer?
I love the warm weather! I love that the sun stays out a lot longer leaving me time to hang out outside! I also love Independence Day. Any excuse for fireworks and a BBQ? Okay.
And in honor of the 4th of July coming up this week, here is a simple festive idea from Lexy!
“I absolutely love Independence Day. The Fourth of July is one of those holidays that is all about fireworks, family, friends, and food. And we all know how I feel about food. Next week we get to have all sorts of parties celebrating this country (and watermelon!). If you’re in charge of bringing the dessert, look no further than right here. These DIY Sparkle Skewers are perfect for all sorts of treats! I’ve skewered up some donuts, but these also work well as cake toppers or drink stirrers!”
What you need:
-mini bbq skewers
-hot glue gun
1. Place a small dollop of hot glue on the blunt end of the skewer.
2. Cut a 1/2 inch piece of tinsel and press it into the glue. Boom. Done.
Easy as pie. Cherry pie. Speaking of pie! Will you be having some this week? Do tell!!
