Throw a cactus party with these fun and simple ideas for decorations, cactus cupcakes, and recipes for other yummy southwestern-inspired food!
Decorations
For some very simple decoration ideas, pull out a giant chalkboard and make a backdrop for your food table.
This party was for our friends moving to Arizona, so that's what we wrote on the sign!
This fun cactus and sunshine banner added was a simple way to add some color. I hand cut these shapes before I had a Silhouette, but if you have a digital craft cutter, that's definitely the easier way to go!
Or you could just buy a pre-made Cactus party banner like this cute one and save yourself the hassle of making one.
Cactus Party Menu
Since our party was just an open house, we opted to serve just snacks and treats, as opposed to a full dinner. If you do want to serve a full Southwestern style dinner, you could try these amazing Simple Fajitas & Spanish Rice!
Here's the food lineup:
- watermelon wedges
- ice water with lemons
- mango salsa and chips
- cute cactus cupcakes (more details below!)
Cute Cactus Cupcakes
Cactus cupcakes? Ok, how cute are these?
In full disclosure (and I have no shame is saying this), is that the cupcakes were just made from a box mix and the frosting was our favorite buttercream frosting.
For the cute rocky topping, I just used Heath Chocolate -covered toffee bits. Or you could break up some Skor candy bars.
To make the cacti, I followed the instructions from this site, but don't look too closely at theirs or you'll realize mine weren't that cool. But, they were my first time making cacti, so I'm giving myself a break. 🙂
The cactus cupcake toppers did take some time to make, so don't for the last minute to create these!
If you don't have time to make these edible cacti, you could always use paper cacti cupcake toppers instead.
